H&D.C.A Highlights (taken from the minutes and Community News):

  1.   A panic button and a phone line would be needed for the N.F.D.C. "Local presence". The Phone line was fitted on the 25th of January. Later they'd want a front door bell and internal "alarm". Two ladies were to be employed on a part time basis. This ignores the "Hythe Marina Liaison officer" At their "Official Opening" in April, the Inn Centre Cafe sold them teas, coffees and biscuits - The invoice still exists.
  2. The 44th edition of  the  H&D Community News was published late due to the printer not working. No known copy of this exists. The 45th was printed in March and the final editon 46th was printed in June.
  3. The Waterside Art Group (W.A.G) would hold their annual art exhibition for a week starting the 12th of August.
  4. The "lease" from the H&D Parish Council (West Shore House) for the building was finally signed - after many reworkings by the three trusties: Stam wage, Maurice Bickley and Brenda Thornber. There were in fact two "leases" a "sub-lease" and a "sub-lease" - both still exist and, from a casual look appears identical.
  5. There were about thirty regular hiring groups at the Community Centre.
  6. Hythe & District Historians used Hall 2 for the first time in January and would hire it out on the 1st Thursdays of the month -  This continues to today.
  7. Executive meetings would be moved to the 2nd Thursday evenings of the month and then to the 3rd Tuesdays of the month.
  8. An "Office Workers Committee" was to be set up to sort out rosters - this was before the Day Warden position was created.
  9. The accountant suggested getting a safe. A safe was brought. The safe remains.
  10. Room C was mentioned. This is a bit odd as this Community Centre didn't have a Room C on it's layout plan after 1986 but before that Room C was the name of the "printing room" that was incorporated into the main office. This is where the H&D Community News was printed. The "ink" left a permanent stain on the floor. It needed more shelving. The sweets for the "Inn Centre" were also kept there despite the room getting rather warm.
  11. A letter to the H&D Parish Council requested permission to make some internal changes to the building ( as hinted above). The changed involved squaring of room A, the removal of part of a wall to create the "inn centre" - and so release room A which had been used during the day. The removal of the wall expanding the office was also mentioned.
  12.  Room E would also need more shelving.
  13. Ewart Court was officially opened. Mr Wade and Mrs Hunter went to represent H&DCA.
  14. A "Centre Users Group" was suggested to be set up.
  15. A "Talent Show", to be organised by Mr H. Cornelius was suggested. Mr & Mrs Bang would organises a keyboard and player.
  16. Sound proofing of "Wilson Hall" was once more brought up.
  17. The H&D Community News misreported where a "right of way" was around Dibden Golf Course.
  18. The H&DCA received charity status with the number: 267994. This number is the one still used today.
  19. Preparations for the Carnival were well on their way despite the lorry booked being only a "20 footer".
  20. Only 7 people attended the tea dance in April.
  21. A "buy a brick" scheme was suggested and it was accepted "in principle".
  22. The gas boiler started malfunctioning.
  23. A new booking system was introduced to help with planning for future bookings. This was a "booking form".
  24. The N.F.D.C presented their "Local Presence Licence Document".
  25. A new 3 pint kettle and a 6 pint kettle were brought. A freezer was also suggested.
  26. The new ramp up to the front door was laid on Saturday 29th of June by Mr Wade, Mr Parkes and Mr Fenna.
  27. The external street lighting was fixed by "the Council" (H.C.C?)
  28. After nine years as Secretary Jean Wallace resigned citing an "atmosphere of dissention and personal attack. Ray white would act as secretary until the next a.g.m.
  29. A visit to the "sailing club" (Yacht Club) was to be arranged to see how they're solved adding new lighting to their "similar" building.
  30. In July, there was talk of employing a part-time "Day Warden" (not to be confused with the future "Centre Manager")- three hours a day around the lunch time swap over. Their pay would be the same as the cleaner's. Mr Jack Armitage was employed in the Autumn. He would remain "Day Warden" for the next seventeen years.
  31. Three new sets of outside tables were brought to be used during the nice weather..
  32. A floor scrubber/ polisher was being sort.
  33. Planning permission was approved for a new development on Hobart Drive. It would have 10 bungalows and 15 flats. This permission would be altered in 1988 and would develop into "Howard Oliver House"
  34. In September, the "Helen Young Dance Clas" started. It was every Monday and Thursday evening in Hall 1 for £8.40 a session.
  35. The Dibden Purlieu Community Association were offered a photocopier and asked the H&DCA if they could house it at the Centre.
  36. The Community Centre would be closed for Christmas between  Mon 23rd of December and Sunday 5th of January 1986.
